Majority expresses frustration over slow-moving negotiations
Senate members are experiencing mounting frustration as bipartisan infrastructure discussions proceed slowly. Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, said members of the minority are responsible for the delays. “We’ve offered to split the difference and they don’t seem to want to do that. It’s not we who’re stalling.”
Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, the lead negotiator for the Senate minority, defended their negotiation tactics, flatly stating that the majority members are “not being reasonable in their requests right now.” Though Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell has reiterated his commitment to passing the bill before August recess, the continued delays are concerning to government officials on both sides of the aisle.
